The short version
- Frontier only asks Shopify for permission to read and edit your themes.
- We don’t access or store your customers’ personal data, orders or products.
- We store basic store details and how you use the app, so we can install sections and improve Frontier.
- We never sell your data. When you uninstall, we delete your store’s data once Shopify asks us to, about 48 hours later.
- You can ask us to see or delete your information at any time.
Who we are
Frontier is a Shopify app made by Inspired Labs (“we”, “us”). This policy explains what information the app collects when a merchant (“you”) installs and uses it, and how we handle that information.
For data about your store and your use of the app, we are the data controller. For any data about your own customers that passes through sections on your storefront, you are the controller, and that data goes to Shopify, not to us (see Your storefront and your customers).
What Frontier can access
When you install Frontier, Shopify asks you to approve these permissions:
| Permission | What we use it for |
|---|---|
read_themes | List your themes, check whether a theme supports sections and blocks, and see which Frontier items are installed. |
write_themes | Add, update and remove Frontier’s own section and block files in the theme you choose. We don’t change your other theme files. |
Frontier doesn’t ask for access to customers, orders, products or payments.
Information we collect
Store details from Shopify
- Your store’s myshopify domain and primary domain.
- Your Shopify plan, whether it’s a development store, your store’s country, its published languages and the name of your live theme.
- The access token Shopify issues to the app. We store it encrypted and use it only to work with your themes.
What you install
- Which sections and blocks you add, update or remove, in which theme, with their version, language and chosen layout, and when each action happened.
How you use the app
- Events such as opening the app, viewing an item, searching the library (including the words you search for), and installing, updating or removing items, plus any errors.
- Basic page-view analytics inside the app, collected with Vercel Web Analytics, which doesn’t use cookies.
Information you choose to give us
- An optional email address in the app’s settings, if you want to hear about updates, and your preferred default language.
- Referral details if you share or use a referral link: the referral code, the stores involved and any reward earned.
- Anything you send our support team, such as your name, email, store URL and messages. This is covered by our Poetic privacy policy, which also covers our website and support.
How we use it
- To install, update and remove Frontier sections and blocks in your theme, and to show you what’s installed.
- To check that items are compatible with your theme and language.
- To keep the app secure and working, and to fix problems.
- To understand which sections are useful and improve the library.
- To send you product updates, only if you gave us an email for that, and to reply when you contact support.
- To run the referral program.
We don’t sell your data, use it for advertising, or share it with third parties for their own marketing.
Your storefront and your customers
Frontier sections and blocks run inside your theme. They don’t send your visitors’ data to Inspired Labs. Some of them use Shopify or browser features you should know about:
- Forms. Newsletter, email popup and contact form sections use Shopify’s built-in forms. What visitors submit goes to your Shopify admin.
- Cart and recommendations. Upsell and bundle blocks use Shopify’s own cart and product recommendation features.
- Browser storage. The age verification and email popups set a first-party cookie to remember that a visitor has seen them. The live reel section uses browser storage for the same reason.
- Embedded media. If you add a YouTube or Vimeo video or link Instagram content, those services may collect data from your visitors under their own policies.
You’re responsible for your store’s own privacy policy and any cookie notice your visitors need.
Who processes data for us
We use a small number of service providers to run Frontier. They process data only on our instructions.
| Provider | What they do |
|---|---|
| Shopify | Hosts your store and themes, and provides the app platform and admin interface. |
| Vercel | Hosts the app and its servers, and provides cookie-free page-view analytics. |
| Supabase | Stores the app’s database. |
| Google Fonts | Serves the fonts used in the app, so your browser connects to Google when the app loads. |
| Resend | Sends emails, such as internal alerts to our team. |
Our team also gets internal summaries with store counts. These don’t include your personal details.
We may also share information if the law requires it, to protect our rights or users’ safety, or with a buyer if Inspired Labs is ever sold or merged, under this same policy.
How long we keep it
- While Frontier is installed, we keep the information above so the app keeps working.
- When you uninstall, we immediately revoke and stop using the app’s access token and mark your installs as removed. The Frontier files you added stay in your theme until you delete them.
- About 48 hours after you uninstall, Shopify sends us a deletion request. We then delete your store’s data: install history, tokens, store details, settings, usage events and referral records.
- Short-lived server logs at our hosting provider are kept for a limited time and then deleted automatically.
Your choices and rights
- You can remove the optional email in the app’s settings at any time.
- You can uninstall Frontier at any time from your Shopify admin, which starts the deletion process above.
- Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete or export your personal data, or to object to how we use it. To make a request, contact us using the details below. You can also complain to your local data protection authority.
Frontier responds to Shopify’s privacy requests. Because the app doesn’t store your customers’ data, customer data requests from Shopify have nothing to return or delete. When Shopify asks us to delete store data, we delete it as described above.
Security
Access tokens are encrypted at rest. The database is only reachable from our servers, every request from Shopify is verified, and the app runs over HTTPS. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your data and will tell you if a breach affects it, as the law requires.
International transfers
Our providers may process data in countries other than yours, including the United States. Where the law requires it, we rely on safeguards such as standard contractual clauses.
Children
Frontier is for businesses and isn’t directed at children under 16. We don’t knowingly collect personal information from children.
Links to other websites
Frontier and this policy link to other sites, such as the Shopify App Store, our Help Center and the services named above. Their own privacy practices apply when you visit them.
Changes to this policy
If Frontier starts collecting new kinds of data or asking for new permissions, we’ll update this policy first and change the effective date above. If a change is significant, we’ll tell you in the app.
